Preventing Injuries

Best Practices for Prevent Injuries

So what is the best way to prevent injuries? Using Proper Form! I can not say that enough, you must use proper form if you are going to prevent injuries. Just remember that if you become injured then you could be set back months or years with your weight training. Make sure that if you are in the gym that you are using the machines properly and using their safety stops. It’s not a pain in the butt to take 10 seconds and move the safety stops to your appropriate position. Even though most gyms have new equipment there are still several gyms that have older equipment. I will never forget what happened to my husband several years ago.

While training on a leg extension machine, in which he was pushing himself pretty hard with 8 45lb plates on each side, the chair broke. This particular machine did not have permanent stops like the leg extension machines do now. You had to manually lock the machine in its safety position. Can you say lawsuit just waiting to happen. Well the guy working out before him didn’t take the time to use the safety lock, but thank goodness he noticed the bar was down and placed the lock into position. After his second set, the chair broke bringing almost 800lbs crushing down on him…the machine stopped 12 inches from crushing his legs because he had that lock in place. When the fitness coordinator ran over to help take the weights off the machine so that he could get up, he advised my husband that the machine had done that before and actually hurt someone. Now I see personally why there is a better business bureau. I am happy to say that that gym has closed.

If you use proper form and follow every machines safety guideline, and even use a spotter when you are training by yourself then you be able to push yourself harder and longer than anyone.

Please pay attention to your form.
