Form

What is the importance of proper form?

There are so many different forms for each type of exercise. Everywhere we look we can see someone performing an exercise: the gym, online, and even on the television. Would you be shocked to know that about 70% of people at the gym have bad form according to the people at Men’s Health. The percentag goes up even further when you look at online exercise from and especially form on movies.

I have always recommended and will always recommend slow and steady. Slow down your movement. For example if you are doing a flat chest press, take the bar down slowly and back up slowly. Don’t worry about the power of going down and up with a burst of energy. You will have more control and more strength by maintaining that slow movement and control throughout the exercise.

If you don’t believe that this is the proper way to prevent having a bad form then consider what happens if you have improper form. Injuries can stop your training all together. Why risk power, jerky moves when it can do nothing but cause you to become injured. So many people ask me how, with my little frame, how am I able to workout out so much and teach so often without having any sort of injury. Proper form and controlling that movement is essential to preventing injuries.

When I workout I love to see exactly how slow I can perform my exercise movement. The slower you can go the stronger you will perform. If you have never tried that type of movement, then take your normal exercise routine and perform every set with that slow controlled movement and tell me about difference that you feel.
